Fundraiser
NBLSA will be selling gilled cheese on Court Street Saturday night in order to raise the money necessary to found a chapter of the organization at Ohio University. We also want to raise money to go on law school visits!
Open house and other events!
NBLSA had a successful open house Thursday, April 16th. Look forward to more events this quarter. As always NBLSA meets every Thursday in Bentley 021 at 7:30 p.m.

We have an official advisor!
The advisor for the OU chapter of NBLSA is Mrs. Tiffany Hill-Smith, Esq.
"Tiffany Hill-Smith joined the Ohio University Office of Legal Affairs in August, 2006 as Assistant to the Director of Legal Affairs. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and earned her J. D. and Bachelor of Civil Law degrees from Louisiana State University.
Prior to joining the Office of Legal Affairs, she worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Nevada and later as an attorney in a small law firm specializing in commercial real estate transactions. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and is also involved in Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), the Ohio University’s Women’s Club and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Tiffany is originally from Louisiana and relocated to Athens from Auburn, Alabama when her husband accepted the position of Vice President for Student Affairs at Ohio University," according to the Ohio University Web site.

Diversity Day at University of Cincinnati Law School (Saturday 2/21/09)
2.21.09 — Diversity Day
The UC College of Law is hosting Diversity Day, an opportunity for high school and undergraduate students to learn more about a future in the legal profession. Students will learn about what lawyers do, how to prepare for law school, experience a mock law school class, and will meet with current law students and practicing attorneys. To RSVP, please email admissions@law.uc.edu with your name and phone number (or call 513-556-0078). Deadline to register is February 13, 2009.

Professional development trip DEPOSIT DUE TOMORROW(2/19/09)!
If you are interested in going on the
professional development trip to New York in the April, you must attend the Black Student Communications Caucus meeting at 6 p.m. tomorrow (2/19/09) on the third floor of the Radio Television building (RTV building). Half the money ($75) is due to hold your spot. We will be talking more about the trip!

NBLSA's first fund raiser postponed!
NBLSA will NOT be selling hot dogs, grilled cheese, hot cocoa, etc. on Court street near the court house from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. this Saturday (1/31/2009). We still want to raise the money for the founding of the OU chapter. Please come out and support us! We will be selling refreshments next week, (Sibs weekend)
When/Where are the NBLSA meetings for the OU Chapter?
NBLSA meets every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Bentley room 110. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be provided. For more information about the organization contact Blair Young at by315805@ohio.edu
Does NBLSA have a national convention?
Yes! The organization holds an annual convention to engage in legal activism and prepare new generations of lawyers to create change in their communities. The conventions include the Frederick Douglass Moot Court and Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial competitions.

How many people participate in NBLSA?
NBLSA is one of the largest student run organization in the United States with over 6,000 members. The organization is also international, with chapters in six different countries including; The Bahamas, Nigeria, and South Africa. NBLSA has over 200 chapters and is present at most law schools.
What is National Black Law Students Association?
The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) was founded in 1968 to promote the needs and goals of black law students and effect change in the legal community. A chapter of NBLSA is being founded at Ohio University this quarter, and is open to anyone with an interest in law or politics. The OU chapter will be the first of its kind in Ohio and one of the few undergraduate chapters of NBLSA.
